PEACE PEACE PEACE

It was Easter weekend in 1958 that the symbol first appeared in public, the first anti-nuclear march from London to Aldermaston. The peace symbol almost at once crossed the Atlantic. Baynard Rustin, a close associate of Martin Luther King had come over from the US in order to take part in that first march. The symbol re-appeared in civil rights marches and later in the anti-Vietnam War demonstrations.. a resurgence of this beautiful symbol and the meaning behind it is why I created these earrings and pendant so pertinent for today.

Sweet Antler & Turquoise

Deer antlers are plentiful here during the hunting season. I use all found and natural objects as did our ancestors, always honoring their spirit. Fashioning hand carved pieces into wearable art with inlay of turquoise and sterling silver. The wrapping is made with iron wire and the necklace is made of buttery soft deer skin. OHM

The Ohm Symbol.

The yoga sutras define Ohm as "underlying intelligence." In Hindu philosphy, the vibration created when saying the word Ohm symbolizes the vibration of the universe.

When said slowly and correctly, Ohm resonates through the abdomen, then the chest and finally the head. A silent pause then represents the higher consciousness beyond thinking or speech. Through meditation, this leads to a fourth transendental state called turiya. While jagrat, swapna and shushupti represent the physical universe, the silence beyond the word Ohm represents a level of reality that includes Ohm but is beyond it. Understanding this reality means understanding the true meaning of Ohm.

Sterling Circle of Life with Turquois & Megalodon

This pendant is representative of the extinct megatoothed shark that existed in prehistoric times, approximately 25 to 1.5 million years ago. My fascination with the availability of these intact teeth which wash ashore here in Hilton Head Island beaches are plentiful and perfect for adornment.

Turquoise and sterling silver compliment the ancient combination of days gone by with all elements. This pendant measures app. 3 inches by 1 and 1/2 inches and attached by a double strands of plush black leather with my signature clasp.

While on a sojourn to Martha's Vineyard basking in the incredible natural beauty of all that so is on this beautiful island, I was inspired to create my own version of the wrap around bracelet I found in Vineyard Haven.
So here's a picture and please enjoy.

The vibrant one of a kind turquoise beads are 5 mm. Combined with Greek round leather, the length of the wrap around is 42 inches making it a beautiful belt or necklace as well. The button is sterling silver, hand fabricated and hammered.
